Joanna is a 500hr Yoga Alliance registered teacher. She completed her trainings and is a Global Ambassador with Yogacara Global. The 200hr Hatha and Vinyasa training was in Whistler in March 2015 and an additional 300hr in Bali in April 2017. She also completed a 50hr Yin Yoga certification with Bernie Clark at Semperviva in May 2016.   Joanna's classes are inclusive and cultivate first and foremost a space for grounding. She strives to establish a sense of balance in the body through the concept of sthira and sukha, strength and ease. Her practice and teaching is slow and mindful, giving time to curiously learn from the body and the breath in each pose and transition. The creation of such a space gives the student the opportunity to develop a deeper awareness of their own bodies and to recognize that they truly are their own best teacher and guide as they start to listen inwards. She is passionate to share what she is learning on her own yoga journey and truly believes in the ripple affect that time spent on our mat creates outwards.

Shelly

Shelly

When Shelly’s maternity leave was coming to an end she made a radical decision. She chose to leave her job as a spa and retail manager with the goal of pursuing a new path, the path of yoga. She tried talking herself out of it on many occasions, but in the end decided to simply return to her mat again and again and see where it lead. She has never looked back.

Shelly trained at one of Vancouver’s oldest and most well respected yoga studios, Semperviva. There she was introduced to a large variety of yoga styles as well as the international yoga communities most prominent teaches including Gurumuhk, Sarah Powers, Max Strom, Seane Corn, Sadie Nardini and Rolf Gates, to name a few.

Years before Shelly began the physical practice of yoga She was engaged in the practice of meditation and reiki, so when she was introduced to the teachings of Michael Stone and Sarah Powers it really struck a chord in her. Both of these teachers blend yoga with Buddhist mindfulness philosophy.

Shelly has been with the studio through many owners and name changes over the years

Mike

Mike

Mike began his journey over a decade ago absorbing dharma talks and other Buddhist influences, slowly, trying to make sense of life. Meditation practice and studies significantly influenced his life, on and off, for years.  After years of practice, while still battling depression and anxiety, he hesitantly joined a local yoga studio to “get off the couch” and find some movement and was instantly absorbed. Connecting with authentic yogic practices of mindful movement, breath work, and philosophy bolstered with community and supporting teachers, transformation was inevitable. Yoga enabled Mike to dive deep, resulting in several personal and psychological realizations, and dramatically improved his mental health. He says the increase in strength, flexibility, and mobility are merely byproducts of the practice.

Mike enjoys practicing several styles of yoga at his local studios including vinyasa, yin, hatha, power, classical, nidra, philosophy studies and contemplation, mythology, and meditation, and can also be found attending local kirtan. Regardless of the practice, a present and meditative mind is his foundation.

Understanding intimately that yoga can be a balance of physical, mental, and spiritual practice, Mike intends for his classes to cultivate space for whatever needs to arise on the mat for his students. His love of music will most certainly show up in the class playlists, infusing the practice with its message and/or energy.

Off the mat, Mike is a husband, proud father of his growing daughter, and a professional electrical engineer. He loves nature, RV glamping, and flip-flops between hobbies including photography, woodworking, and guitar, depending on which way the winds are blowing.

Alissa

Alissa

Alissa was drawn to teaching Yoga through a fitness background and because she found it to be the treatment that worked best for her body after a car accident. It was also the adaptability of the practice that inspired her. She felt that the postures were open to interpretation, making them even more holistic. Even with alignment principles involved, she sees the beauty in the uniqueness of the individual practice.

In her classes, you will find time to connect with your body and freedom to move and explore to become the expert on you and your own abilities. You will also find instructions that make the practice safe, encourage modifications and allow for the opportunity to practice with eyes closed, if you so choose.

Alissa’s classes always offer a healthy dose of compassion, introspection and nourishing movement. She teaches students how to slow down, notice, and listen – always leaving them with some food for thought to help take their practice off their mats and into the rest of their lives. Plus, some giggles.

Since completing her first 200 hour certification in 2009, Alissa has added over 1000 more hours of trainings such as, Power Vinyasa, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Blissology, Pre and Postnatal, Tibetan Heart Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Yoga and Psyche, to name a few.

Outside of teaching, Alissa enjoys connecting with and photographing Nature, “Auntie Dates” with her nieces and nephew and reading anything inspirational that she may be able to share in class.
